Neutrals step roughly two-thirds of a stop each. The white patch reflects ≈ 91 % — do not expose it as 100 % white. “Neutral 5” (≈ 19 % Y) is the classic mid-gray exposure reference.
How to use
- Lookdev check — build a 24-patch plane in the render, set each patch's albedo to the linear or ACEScg value (working-space dependent), light it evenly, and compare against a photographed chart through the same view transform.
- Plate match — sample the on-set chart in the plate; the neutrals should read the Y % above (relative to the white) and the chromatic patches should sit close to these xyY chromaticities after your IDT.
- Which values — these are X-Rite's published 2005 averages (Lab, D50/2°). Charts manufactured after November 2014 use revised pigments and differ by a few ΔE; individual charts drift with age and handling.
- Conversions — Lab → XYZ(D50) → Bradford → D65 for sRGB, and → ACES white for ACEScg. sRGB 8-bit values are clamped; the cyan patch is slightly out of sRGB gamut.
